What is the John Muir Award?

The John Muir Award is an environmental Award scheme focused on wild places. This could be any where from a mountaintop to a city garden. It encourages the discovery and conservation of wild places, in a spirit of fun, adventure and exploration.

The Award is non-competitive, open to all and is the educational initiative of the John Muir Trust. There are three Levels of the John Muir Award, encouraging a progressive involvement. All levels of the Award are based on meeting the same four challenges of: Discover, Explore, Conserve, and Share.

Those schools who decide to take part in the award will automatically be involved in the Discovery Award. This is carried out over a 4 day period and so is ideal for a school residential at Morfa Bay. It is directed at an introductory level and covers the four challenges of the John Muir Award.Participating in the award is completely free for groups and individuals alike;Through the award children get the opportunity to experience the outdoors with an aspect of educational direction relating to environmental schemes.

Support is on-hand from Morfa Bay instructors and through the John Muir Award office.

Involvement in the award can go beyond the residential as children can share their experiences with one another through displays, presentations and projects at school.

A certificate will be awarded to every individual in recognition and celebration of the award. For more information and to become involved with The John Muir Award please contact Jonathan Owen on 01994 453 588 or enquiries@morfabay.com
